February 2010 Fleet Feet Flyer Newsletter

winter birds

Happy February everyone!  On behalf of the entire team at Fleet Feet Sports we hope this newsletter edition finds you well. If you are new to our club and reading this for the first time, welcome!  We are glad to have you aboard.
If I might, a few quick thoughts:

  1. The devastation in Haiti reminds us that there is so much work to do. Where can we point our efforts and make a difference?

  2. Saying “hi” to one more person each day may be the highlight of that person’s day, and perhaps our own.

  3. Create a group to run or walk with.  The companionship is wonderful, the routine becomes consistent, and everyone in the group gains the benefit.

  4. Eat quality food to fuel your exercise regimen.  It will result in a more energetic you.

  5. Drinks lots of water. (I really struggle with this.)

  6. Take one good thing from a rough day, put it in your pocket, and remember it.  Time is so short, try not to leave any of it in a negative place.

We cannot thank you enough for your support. We very much enjoy your visits to the store and would like to be of help where we can.  The calendar shows only 28 more days of winter, and then on to spring.  Stop in when you can; we would enjoy saying “hi.”

Best regards,
Charles and Arlene Woodruff

EnduroxR4 is a recovery product known for its 4:1 carbohydrate to protein ratio. 4-1EnduroxR4 is a recovery product known for its 4:1 carbohydrate to protein ratio.  Carbohydrates are key nutrients for muscle recovery.  For fitness-oriented individuals, it is recommended that 60-70% of calories consumed come from carbohydrates (Darden 2004).  The usual recommendation for protein intake is 0.36 grams per pound.

Unlike its competitors, Endurox R4 contains 420 mg. of L-Glutamine.  L-Glutamine is one of the 20 essential amino acids and plays a major role in protein synthesis.  Another essential nutrient contained in Endurox R4 is a high percentage of vitamin E.  Vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects the cell membrane and helps synthesize the lipid as an energy source.  With 1,330% vitamin E there is a more efficient synthesis of protein and lipid soluble nutrients.  All of these nutrients work to make recovery a faster, more efficient process (Herrera, et. al. 2001)

Mediterranean feta cheese wrap

Mediterranean Feta Cheese Wrap

Whole wheat tortillas or wraps provide slow-release carbs for energy. Mediterranean vegetables such as peppers and tomatoes are loaded with vitamin C, and rich in beta-carotenes, important antioxidant vitamins. Feta cheese is one of the lower fat cheeses providing plenty of protein to fuel the muscles, plus calcium to keep your bones at full strength. Add a handful of spinach or watercress to provide iron needed to transport oxygen to your muscles, plus folic acid which is good for your heart.

Ingredients (serves one)
  • 1 whole wheat tortilla
  • 2 oz. feta cheese, cubed
  • 1 tsp. pesto sauce
  • 1 roasted red pepper, sliced (can buy in jars)
  • 2 sundried tomatoes, chopped
  • Handful of spinach leaves or watercress

Spread the wrap with the pesto.  Place the feta in the centre, top with the vegetables and roll up – it’s that easy.
