Fleet Feet Albany Christmas Newsletter December 2007

snowflake

Holiday Greetings to All Club Members:

Arlene and I hope this newsletter finds you and your family well and looking forward to the holiday season ahead! It is our sincere hope that the coming days allow you to reconnect with family and friends, slow the pace of your life a bit (tough to do while fighting traffic, waiting in line and seemingly rushing everywhere), appreciate the crisp, clean air, the smell of a fire burning and the inner peace this season can create if we will only let it!

As I try to do, I think often about time. I think about time being the only asset I really have. How I spend it, who I share it with, what good I can do with it. These are things I am always conscious of, maybe to a fault!

As we move into this great season I want to thank all of you for the time you spend with us. Yes we are a place where you come to purchase things for the sport we all enjoy so much, but the fact is you come here, and we appreciate that every day. I want to thank the staff of Fleet Feet Sports for their collective effort to provide the highest level of customer service, for being the excellent team they are and for the “time” they devote to that effort. I am fortunate to be able to do so. I want to thank the medical community for all the referrals and the opportunity to spend “time” with your patients, clients and associates. They are some of the nicest people, and it is our pleasure to help where we can. I certainly want to thank the coaches who make it a point to mention us; helping your student athletes is perhaps what I enjoy most, they are so engaging and energetic!

We at Fleet Feet Sports have come up with a word..it is Fitlosophy..not in the dictionary, but defined simply as “the complete FIT experience.” Fitlosophy certainly pertains to footwear fitting, sports bra fitting and all the other “fit” things we do in the store. In a broader sense, however, Fitlosophy is a total experience. How does Fleet Feet Sports fit in the community we serve, how does Fleet Feet Sports fit in our employees' lifestyle, how do we fit in yours and how can we leave something better than we found it. We talk about those things all the time and pledge to you that we will continue to move forward and try and be a good “fit.” One thing we are doing right now, in an attempt to reduce landfill waste, is to eliminate plastic shopping bags from the store. When you qualify for our Personal Rewards program and redeem the coupon we will present you with a biodegradable canvas bag that we ask you shop with in the future.Additionally, we have asked our vendor partners to actively look at ways to reduce the amount of paper and plastic they use to package and ship products. Kudos so far to Brooks and Nike for beginning to make progress in that regard, it’s only a matter of time before others will follow.

From all of us at Fleet Feet Sports, we do wish you the best of all things this holiday season. For the future “time” you will choose to spend with us, we will very much look forward to that!

Very Best Regards,

Arlene and Charles Woodruff

Athletes’ Kitchen

At this hectic time of year, we all need recipes that are quick, hearty, and healthy.  This pasta dish can be prepared in about 30 minutes.  Plus, the tomatoes and spinach give your table a festive seasonal look.

Bow-Ties with Asiago Cheese & Spinach

Ingredients
3 cups boiling water
4 oz. sun-dried tomatoes (about ¼ cup)
1 lb. bow-tie pasta
3 T. extra-virgin olive oil
¼ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. pepper
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 10-oz. bag fresh spinach, torn
1 ½ cups Asiago cheese, grated
½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Preparation

Combine boiling water and sun-dried tomatoes in a bowl; let stand about 25 minutes.  Cook pasta according to package directions.  While pasta is boiling, drain and chop tomatoes; combine with oil, salt, pepper, garlic, and spinach in large bowl.  When pasta is done, drain quickly and add to vegetable mixture (spinach will wilt).  Sprinkle with cheeses, toss gently, and serve immediately.

Tie on your apron, be creative, and submit a runner friendly recipe to our monthly contest.  You’ll receive a prize if our hungry staff chooses yours.  Throughout the coming year, we plan to collect all your favorites in a Fleet Feet Albany cookbook.

High School Page

Coaches Corner:

We would love to profile your athletes in our newsletter – doesn’t have to be the highest jumper, fastest sprinter, or best runner.  We are really after all those hard working athletes, whether they finish first or just finish.  Good students, team leaders, and hard workers in practice.  Send along a profile; include a photo if you like.  We will choose one or two each month and feature them in this newsletter.  Props to their hard work!

Student-athletes:

Want to recognize a coach who has gone the extra mile to help you achieve your goals?  Send a message to us, and we will feature him or her in our newsletter.

Bell Lap

Exciting things are coming your way in 2008.  We hope to introduce some new products and are planning events that will be both instructional and entertaining.

Plans are in the works for our second Diva Night, that promises to be bigger and better than the first.  Tentatively scheduled for early March, look for more information in our newsletter in the coming months.

Also on our spring calendar is the No Boundaries program sponsored by New Balance.  No Boundaries offers coaching, product, and tons of support for those athletes looking to complete their first 5K race.
