Structural Management® is the lead sponsor in the new YMCA 5k Race Series. Appropriately so, many will ask the question, “What is Structural Management?”. So, let’s take a few minutes here to get this FAQ behind us.
Structural Management is important for every runner who signs up for any one of these Y races. In fact, it is important for anyone who has a desire to enjoy more of their future and stay as active and pain free as possible. What most of us don’t realize is, we live in a REACTIVE healthcare system. You would never call your Dr. until you’re hurt or broken. Yet, in the financial world, the auto world, the house maintenance world, we all know that’s a recipe for disaster.
In the human being industry, the same applies. When we let ourselves go to the point that a Drs. visit is needed, much destruction and damage can already have taken place in joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. These are the underlying factors that dictate how fast we age, and at what age we’ll have to give up some degree of what we do. It also dictates how much we hurt as we age, as the breakdown of joints, better known as osteoarthritis, is in epidemic proportion in this country. Medical expert Dr. Bob Arnot, in his book Wear and Tear, says “Medicine would have nothing for me until I needed a hip replacement”. Structural Management® is the program that answers that problem
To start this program, we recommend everyone over the age of 12 go through an initial Structural Fingerprint® Exam. This exam detects our unique structures, determined by many, many factors. These factors include heredity, prior injuries, lifestyle, diet, exercise, height, weight, job, etc. In order to customize proper recommendations for anyone, a detailed exam identifies a person’s structural imbalances, weaknesses, distortion patterns, fixations, etc. The tests performed in this exam can be found on the website at http://structuralmanagement.com under Structural Fingerprint® Exam.
Once these findings are known, a customized corrective program is developed, consisting of custom orthotics, a Stick and a musculo-skeletal corrective program. There are 3 goals; to improve overall balance, joint mobility and muscular flexibility. As runners, we know it takes time to get the body conditioned for improved performance. The same holds true with improvement of biomechanics. The initial program can range anywhere from 6-12 months, with the goal being…..Maximum Biomechanical Improvements.
